ISUZU

The Isuzu 4BD1 is a 3.9 litre four cylinder diesel engine. It was manufactured by Isuzu in Japan and in some places is still in production. In the USA, early forms of this engine were known as the QD100. The six cylinder version (6BD1) was also known as the QD150. Approx 1980 this engine became available as an industrial and marine engine, it also used in Isuzu light trucks known as the K series. As a marine and industrial engine the 4BD1 and 4BD1T continue to be sold in some countries. Isuzu still offer 4BG1 and 4BG1T industrial and marine engines which while larger displacement are the same engine family and offer power outputs of up to 200hp.
The Isuzu 4HK1 features the same cylinder stroke as its predecessor, the 4HE1 (4.8L), but employs a 5 mm larger bore diameter. The 5.2L inline 4 cylinder was introduced for the 2005 model year in Isuzu N-Series cab-over trucks. It features a robust cast iron engine block with dry type cylinder liners, a single overhead camshaft with 4 valves per cylinder, and the most recent models have a 375,000 mile B10 life. The 215 horsepower engine was rated to 452 lb-ft through 2019, but received a peak 520 lb-ft rating for 2020 model year trucks.
The J-series direct injection diesel engine was introduced in 1985, in 2.5 or 2.8 liter displacements. Initially installed only in lighter duty versions of the Isuzu Elf, it soon found its way into other Isuzu products. It replaced the somewhat smaller C engine; later on 3.1- and 3.0-liter versions were also introduced - still with four cylinders in line.
The 4JB1 is a 2.8L 93mm bore, 102mm stroke direct injection diesel engine. It was used in the Isuzu bighorn (trooper), Mu (rodeo), Wizard (LWB Rodeo), Rodeo Pickup and Holden Jackaroo sold in Japan, Australia and New Zealand until the early 90's. It features direct injection and was turbocharged and intercooled in later applications. Stock power levels are approximately 85kw.

The bore by stroke measured 4.02 by 4.63 inches, and the compression ratio measured 17.5:1. The engine utilized a 12 V starter and the cooling system used a liquid-cooled design.
